Of the many features and functions incorporated into this kitchen, the one I feel most unique is the evolving idea of the "kitchen window". The universal request in kitchen design is to have a window above the sink and, in this case, the size and shape of the window are inspired by archaeological details. To enlarge this kitchen and reinforce its relationship to the adjacent Family Room, a covered porch with an arched opening was brought indoors, eliminating one door and increasing the space available for the kitchen. We designed the window based on the size and shape of the existing arch. Display shelves for the Owners' pottery and art collection are positioned to modulate the flow from the Breakfast room into the kitchen
