The first house that I designed was a vacation home on Martha's Vineyard for a Cincinnati family. The design goal was to blend with the New England vernacular that had evolved over time as well as to meet the 24 foot maximum ridge height mandated by the deed restrictions. We wanted it to look as though it had always been there - a look enhanced by the rapid graying of the cedar shingles.
